Free SEO audit · The difference

Most "free SEO audits" are automated junk. Mine isn't.

Type your URL into a "free SEO audit" tool and you'll get a generic score and a hundred flagged "issues" in about four seconds — no priorities, no judgment, and not one word about whether AI search engines can find you. I'm Luke. I do the free audit by hand: I look at your actual site, pick the few fixes that matter, and hand you a list you can act on. Same price. Wildly different thing.

What's wrong with most "free SEO audits"

Nearly every "free SEO audit" you'll find online is the same thing wearing different branding: an automated checker that scans your page, scores it, and dumps a wall of red flags on you. It looks thorough. It isn't.

The score is instant and generic. The "issues" are unranked — a missing meta description sits right next to a problem that's actually tanking your traffic, with nothing telling you which is which. And the whole report is usually just bait: a hook to capture your email and sell you a retainer. Here's the pattern, every time:

What makes mine different

My free audit runs on the opposite principle. A tool's job is to flag everything; my job is to tell you what to do about it. Same word — "audit" — but one is a printout and the other is a decision. Here's what you actually get:

Automated checker vs. a human audit

The two genuinely produce different things. A side-by-side, on the dimensions that actually decide whether an audit is worth your time:

01

Priorities

Checker: a hundred flagged "issues" in a flat list. Me: the three fixes that will actually move your rankings, ranked in order.

02

Judgment

Checker: the same generic rulebook applied to every site on earth. Me: context — what your site is, who you're competing with, and what to safely ignore.

03

AI search

Checker: ignored completely. Me: I check whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews can find and cite you.

04

What happens after

Checker: your email drops into an upsell funnel. Me: an honest fix list that's yours to keep, with no follow-up unless you ask.

Where free ends and real work begins

I want to be straight with you: a free audit is a diagnosis, not a cure. It tells you exactly what's wrong and what to fix first — but it doesn't do the fixing.

Actually closing those gaps, building the content, cleaning up the technical debt, and compounding rankings month over month is the work — and that's the paid engagement, not the free audit. The free audit is the honest starting point: take the list and run with it yourself, or have me do it. Either way, you'll know where you stand before you spend a dollar. When you're ready for the hands-on part, that's SEO services.

The honest answers

What's the difference between a free SEO audit and a free SEO checker tool?

A free SEO checker tool is an automated scan — it crawls your page in seconds and spits out a generic score with a long list of flagged "issues", most of which don't matter. A free SEO audit, the way I do it, is reviewed by a human who knows what to ignore. I look at your actual situation, pick out the few fixes that will move the needle, check whether AI search engines can even find you, and hand you a prioritized list. One is a vending machine; the other is judgment.

Is a manual SEO audit better than an automated one?

For deciding what to actually do, yes. Automated tools are great at one thing: surfacing every possible flag, fast. But they can't tell you which of those hundred flags is costing you traffic and which is noise — that takes a person who has fixed these problems before. A manual audit uses the data and adds the judgment on top: priorities, context, and the AI-search checks most tools skip entirely. Use the tool to gather; use a human to decide.

Free SEO audit vs. paid SEO audit — which do I actually need?

Start with the free one. A free audit is a real diagnosis — it tells you what's wrong and what to fix first, and it's yours to keep whether or not you ever hire me. A paid SEO engagement is the part that comes after: actually doing the work, fixing the issues, building content, and compounding rankings over months. If you just want to know where you stand, the free audit is enough. If you want someone to fix it and keep fixing it, that's the paid side.
